Lucy’s Favourite Hangouts
Visit Lucy’s favourite Auckland hangouts, from her home
during the filming of Xena Warrior Princess, to her pick of cafés,
her statue chill out zone in the Botanic Gardens through to where
Lucy ran as a kid in her hometown of Mt Albert.
Amazon Group Photo
Gathered around the volcanic crater rim of Mt Eden and
using Auckland as a backdrop, gaze across to the distant Waitakere
Ranges and smile.
Amazon Village
In the majestic Waitakere Ranges and on actual film
location you’ll find Camp Amazon NZ, your authentic 5 Star Amazon
Village with all the trimmings of an Amazon camp, complete with all
the finishing touches. Experience this once in a lifetime
opportunity to live as part of an Amazon tribe and partake in Amazon

Amazon Boot Camp
For those crazy enough to enjoy getting out of bed for an
impressive sunrise and an Amazon workout, then this is for you.
Here, you’ll prepare yourself for the Amazon Olympics. Training
involves all forms of Amazon defence and weaponry skills, swordplay,
obstacles and archery.
Horse Drawn Roman Chariot Charge
Direct from the set, the horse drawn Roman Chariot Charge
along Bethells Beach promises to get your heart racing, have your
camera ready, you’re not going to want to miss this photo
opportunity.
Amazon Olympics
Late afternoon heralds the arrival of the Amazon Olympics
where we’ll discover who was paying attention to their morning’s
training. A myriad of challenges await with the overall winner
taking the title of Champion.
Waitomo Caves. Full Day Adventure of Glow Worms,
Stalactites and Caves
After a scenic bus journey to the spectacular
world-renowned Waitomo Glowworm Caves, a cave's guide will deliver an
informative commentary about the history of the area and the magnificent
formations you'll be seeing. Without a doubt the highlight being the boat trip
through the Glowworm Grotto, where thousands upon thousands of glowworms light
the cave's roof and reflect upon the calm waters.
Hike to Murawai Beach
Take a hike to another well-known Xena landmark, Murawai Beach. Perched amongst
the steep cliffs and rocky nesting areas, this black sand beach is home to one
of only two land based Gannot bird colonies in NZ. Sand yachts and mountain bikes
are available for hire and if the tide is right you’ll be rewarded with the blowhole
gushing water sky high.
Maori Cultural Night
Enjoy a spectacular Maori Cultural Night, wearing traditional costumes, a Kapahaka group
of Maori dancers entertains all with Poi and Haka performances. Dinner cooked in the earth
via the famous Maori Hangi.
Amazon Dance Party
As the games conclude a mighty feast at sunset begins.
Cooked via NZ’s famous Hangi, enjoy this magnificent meal cooked in
the earth as the sun bids farewell to another day. Then break out
the Amazon dance wear for this traditional ‘Rites of Passage’ Dance
Party and crowning of the Amazon Champion. Under the moon and by a
roaring fire, dance to the raw beat of tribal drums.
Starship Hospital Donation Drop
As a member on the board of the Starship Hospital
Foundation, Lucy Lawless donates much of her time to this and many
other worthy charities. On the way to Camp Amazon NZ we’ll detour
offering an opportunity for those wishing to donate in person to the
Starship office.

Lucy’s absolute favourite, the Sling Shot Bungy shoots
you into the night and the stars above with an awesome adrenaline
rush. For the more courageous, do as Lucy did and step off the
tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere, in the heart of Auckland
City the Sky Jump plunge promises to get the heart racing!
Dan the Horseman
Cut across the blue waters of Auckland Harbour to be met
by Dan the Horseman. Taking to the streets in the back of his
Clydesdale Horse pulled cart, Dan will entertain you with tales of
his days working as a horseman on the XWP productions and of recent
rides with Lucy and her boys during holiday time.
Waitakere Ranges
Experience nature in its rawest form, no doubt created
with such beauty as Mother Nature had the foresight to foretell of
its future use as a backdrop for the many major production companies
that were soon to discover this very location.
Info On The Area
Whilst Kare Kare, just around the corner is well known
for its role in The Piano, Bethells Beach gained worldwide
familiarity whilst hosting productions that tended more toward
kicking butt, such as Xena Warrior Princess, Hercules and even the
Power Rangers. Just 40mins West of Auckland, the Waitakare Ranges
and the surrounding wild and rugged landscape of Bethells, is dotted
with numerous hot spots where filming took place during Xena Warrior
Princess’s six year successful season run.
